Mac where can I find one of them there Scanners? I want to hear the next time that happens.
You see I saw three dogs charge a man on Williams. Called 911 (as it was after hours) for Humane Society to be called. I saw Animal Control near the church parking lot where the dogs were and I could see the dogs around the church patron's cars but he pulled off down Indiana. I and my trusty phone step outside to holler at him, this time I'm the one getting charged. I called 911 AGAIN and let them know that the dog was still around my house. ACO comes to the front door and tells me he can't find the dogs (Okay go back to the ally and let me step out my back door) and that he's been told not to look too long for dogs after hours. Not a cop in sight over a dog charging people....ME at my back door but they shoot a dog for chasing another dog.....hmmm that makes me think.
The ACO did find the owner of the other two dogs but I don't know what happened to the one charging me. Trust me I was very unhappy with the thought that we had to do a search around the house before taking our dogs out to their yards. Thankfully we haven't seen that dog since.

****I AM LOGGED IN UNDER MY HUSBAND!!! SORRY!! THIS POST IS FROM ELEFAN!!****** well...it seems like we are at the right place to get some answers.. SCOTT.... who is ultimately responsible for the welfare of the animals at the Danville humane society?? It seems like the mistreatment and mismanagement isn't just a rumor. Many people I have spoken with agree that some very sad things are going on there. Here is a fact. People love animals. They are like our kids. (as I am sure you know Mayor as when I was walking dogs in the Labor day parade with the shelter i believe you yelled at us that you had adopted YOUR dog from there) We cannot tolerate inhumane behavior at the places we call "shelter". Too often the subject of animals gets swept under the rug because there is so much more in life to worry about. The only problem with that is that humans have domesticated these animals and created a situation where they depend on us. Nancyo...tdinger..and all who love animals....one voice CAN make a difference. Two voices together are even stronger. I truly believe that bringing things to light and exposing the ugly truths can bring about change. Most people may not understand what goes on at the humane society. Why not call the C-N and ask them to do a story on the humane society? They can't seem to focus on too much hard news so maybe a piece about a needy society this time of year is what we need. They do all these fluff pieces on purebred dogs..how about the cold hard ugly facts about bleeding, unwanted, unloved, dogs right here in Danville!!!! also..saying there is no money in the "budget" is an unacceptable excuse. Many cities are finding different ways to help their needy animals. The mayor of Albuquerque, New Mexico is leading the way. He began taking animals from the shelters on speaking engagements with him!! (speaking engagements that had NOTHING to do with animals) This got people talking and now the laws are changing for the good for animals in NM. He has spearheaded efforts and things are changing. One person CAN get the ball rolling. This goes for dogfighting too. Has anyone thought of making fliers up and passing them around the neighborhoods where this is going on? Tell your neighbors the ugly truths and have them bombard the aldermen. That is what we are paying these elected officials for!! Not to sit on the internet all day...but to actually work! Make them work for you. Get your neighbors involved. If we are unhappy...if you are unhappy...make your voice heard!!!

Very good post, Elefan. I have told Diana about this forum and asked her to get on and at least read it. I am getting ready to call her right now and tell her about your post. Have you talked to her about these things? I have heard all kinds of terrible things, but nothing seems to change. It would be wonderful if someone with the power and authority to make changes would decide that the fate of these poor unfortunate animals is worth their time and effort. They are God's creatures, too, and I firmly believe that anyone who mistreats an animal will burn in hell right along with people who abuse other people. I only wish there were more people like you, Nancy, Diana and others I have met during my lifetime of loving and helping animals.

I was listening to the scanner a couple days ago. Police had to shoot a dog and was chasing another dog. I got on the last of the incident but the Humane Society was involved in the chase and capture. Did anyone else listen to it. I believe it was on Monday.
I seldom remember to turn the scanner on unless I see red lights flashing in the neighborhood. But sure didn't ever read anything in the paper about it. Seems that might have been newsworthy?!! Especially if a gun was discharged.

Wish I could have listened to it all but it was just a little north from you.

Whoa. Will have to watch closely when Trixie and I go for our walks. That is the direction we usually head. I have a canister of "something" on the keychain. Started to say mace but don't think that is right. But always have that in my pocket in case we run into some type trouble. But not sure how long those things stay good!

Organized animal combat may very well be cruel and inhumane, but how could anyone be concerned about it when there are still many human beings being treated unfairly and inhumanely. I'm all for treating animals right, but let's prioritize treating people right.

We can't solve all the problems at once. That is why we have individual groups that charge ahead and try to do the best they can in the area they feel led to participate so Animal Rights keep up your good work.

supplyside: if we all had the same passions then only one problem would be solved....people are passionate about many different things and that is why this world is so great. For me, my passion is animals. It is where I shine. It is what I care about. People tell me that when I am working with or talking about shelter animals or about the elephants my body language and demeanor are so positive and bubbly and they honestly see a difference in me than when I am just doing daily tasks. I think this is true for anyone who finds their passion and that is why different passions are so great. We can all teach each other and educate. For instance, you educate me about people, I will educate you about animals. We both learn...we can both give to each others causes a little and TWO causes have been bettered.

I like you and I respect you, but I'll take an animal over a human being any day of the week. Due to governments everywhere, we will NEVER get around to animal welfare with the attitude of "people first." I understand that if the situation arises where you have to choose a person over an animal that most would choose a person, but I'm like elefan....I do better work for animals. You may do better preserving the rights of people and their ability to live a quality life. Again, we have our own priorities and opportunities to excel. And I believe both are EQUALLY important. SL

All I can add to this is that Sister Lucy and Elephan and have said it better than I ever could.
For me it's very simple... I've never had to worry about what an animals true motive is, I've never been stabbed in the back by an animal, all animals have ever offered me is unconditional love and companionship. Animals do not look at the clothes you wear, the car you drive and pass judgement on you. Animals trust with out question, they are voiceless, they can't protect themselves from those who wish to exploit them for their own personal gain.
I did a blog a few months back on the tie in between animal abuse and spousal/child abuse. It's there if you would like to read it.

You have all echoed my sentiments on animal welfare. Humans have many, many advocates; there are innumerable give-aways for their benefit; when adult, they can choose their path and better themselves. Animals have none of these options. They are truly at the mercy of the humans around them and mercy is what all of us who love them try to bestow whether they are our house pets or some of the outside critters that need an extra helping hand during a long cold winter. We have, as a society, taken so much from them and they continue to give so much back to us. I can't fight everyone's battle so this is the one I have chosen to put my energy into. As an aside to animal's plight, I recently saw articles about the courts allowing people to work off fines by spending time at various public service work including the humane society. I hope the courts and JoAnn Adams carefully oversee those whose duties are hands-on with animal care. Someone being forced to work at kennel cleaning and poop scooping will not be in the right frame of mind to begin with to be patient with frightened babies who don't understand why they are in a small cage with strangers around them. I'm very concerned with this decision.
