Perhaps transgressing the "stay on topic" dogma, the following is from this soon-to-be defunct forum's registration agreement:

"You agree that you will not attack any person, either directly or indirectly, nor will you try to bait others into an argument."

As we are graduated from this AAD forum, let us ponder just where labeling and name-calling fits into the scheme of our discussions. If they are not forms of attack, then what are official attacks (rhetorically submitted)?

Oliver my friend, tit for tat I always say, I would suggest someone calling people "Barney Fife's and "doofusus" would be reason enough for a retorical response. Sorry that you may not agree but my dictionary does put things into proper perspective.

there are a quiet a few Barneys and dufuses on the local city force and county also but take into consideration what you have to pick from.

This is indeed a bit off subject but Fatty, as you well know, there are most likely "some" Barneys and "some" dufuses on almost every police force in the WORLD. To label them all as such does a great disservice to our local police agencies who, in my humble opinion have improved drastically over the past 5 to 7 years. From what I've seen, the quality of todays DPD and VCD is much better than in the past. They are doing a exceptionally good job given the situations they have to face on a nightly basis. I just get tired of seeing them all get bashed regularly by people who have little or no experience in the field of law enforcement. There are bad apples and under performers in every occupation. Look no further than the White House to see what I mean.

The dictionary is not the source of contention. The unending bully-battle of saying “you started it (name-calling et cetera) first!” is where the problem lies and it was that which I was trying to address briefly in these last fleeting moments of the Original House of AAD.

The only ways I know of to end the personal attacks are through the intervention of a moderator, or through a participant developing an incapacitating mental or physical ailment, or by a “contender” actually making an intellectually valid point and moving on.

Those with normal insight can tell who is on the shallow side intellectually and who has more depth. Why not strive for the latter? (especially if it’s handy leaning right outside against the house?)

Anyway, a new forum awaits for all still here. It is a chance to make fresh start, well, for about 10 seconds or so, probably.

Merry dialogues to all, and to all, a good night! (Ho ho ho!) (Hey, no name-calling, Oliver!)
